On February 09, 2016, St. Mary’s Seminary celebrated the Asian New Year. The principal celebrant of the Mass was an alumnus of the seminary, Fr. Thu Le, pastor of St. Christopher, Houston, with ten other priests concelebrating. St. Mary’s seminarians and faculty were honored to welcome the Redemptorist brothers, who provided a wonderful performance of Lion Dance. Other honored guests included several Dominican sisters and Bazillian brothers.
Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays for Asian people. Most families gather to have a traditional meal and exchange gifts and red envelops with lucky money. Exchanging gifts and red envelops expresses appreciation for goodness and bounty from God and neighbors.
SMS would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Thi Le and her staff who came from South Carolina to provide fantastic food for the occasion. This event is important for seminarians to get exposed to different cultures in the universal Church. Many thanks to our Asian brothers and those who have made this event possible. Happy New Year!
